We are going to perform reboots and other maintenance on all VPS nodes in order to mitigate the recently announced Spectre and Meltdown CPU vulnerabilities.
We are using kernelcare on our nodes and usually do not need to reboot the nodes in order to install kernel patches. However this time a patched kernel is already available, while kernelcare has not yet released an update, and it doesn't seem the will release it anytime soon. So this time we will do a reboot on the VPS nodes in order to get a new and patched kernel.
We will use the chance to also perform some other maintenance on the VPS nodes.
How we will do it:
We will perform the maintenance and reboots one node at a time, watching for any problems. All VPSes will be migrated one by one on other (temporary) nodes. When the maintenance on the original nodes is complete, the VPSes will be migrated back to their original nodes. This means that each VPS will see a total of two reboots.
We are sorry for the incoivenience caused.
